LIFO or FIFO?

I was staring at my yarn stash the other night, which all barely fits within a suitcase, and wondering if I go through it in a last-in-first-out (LIFO) or first-in-first-out (FIFO) style. (Yes, these are computer science terms, but they come to me naturally because I've been developing software for more years than I can count). Anyway, I think I tend to use the yarn up in a LIFO fashion, which is okay, but not that great. It means that I have yarn at the bottom of the stash rotting away and for which I might not be able to get extra skeins if I need to. I guess the more recent purchases always seem more fresh and interesting, for some unknown reason.

On the knitting front, I'm doing the armhole bands on the vine lace vest, so it should be done in a couple of days.

What an interesting theory!! I'm not sure I do either. I'm more of a "add on top and buy more to cover the rest" kind of gal ;) I *am* trying to knit from stash more but I think my usage is pattern driven. Which thing do I want to knit now? etc.
